“First Light” is a phrase used to refer to a telescope’s first exposure to space. In this case, it refers to the first post on this admittedly self-congratulatory and occassionally spacey website.
Here the Moon is swallowed by Earth’s shadow, the colors provided by morning sunlight filtering through our atmosphere as the horizon rises. The Moon doesn’t set nor the Sun rise, but the effect is still glorious. Even if we continue to use 300-year-old misconceptions to describe the daily reawakening it seldom disappoints here in Southern California.
